Markel appoints Scott Luxford as Head of Distribution & MGA Strategy

Markel Insurance, the insurance division of Markel Group Inc., has announced the appointment of Scott Luxford as Head of Distribution and Managing General Agent (MGA) Strategy – Australia.

In this role, Luxford will work with Australian-based brokers, MGAs, and other distribution partners to identify opportunities and demonstrate how they can benefit from the scale of Markel’s trading relationships.

He will also be part of Markel’s global wholesale distribution strategy and broker development team, led by Dan Martin, Managing Director – Distribution Strategies & Business Development. The team focuses on creating new opportunities and strengthening relationships by building trust and relevance with key international MGAs.

Based in Sydney, Luxford will report to Rory Morison, Managing Director – Australia.

Luxford joins Markel from Harland Green, where he was Head of Distribution and part of the founding team.

Previously, he served as Executive Director – Professional and Financial Risks at 360 Underwriting Solutions, where he founded and expanded the business into a fully operational specialist Financial Lines underwriting agency.

He has also held senior leadership roles at QBE Australia and Zurich Financial Services Australia. Earlier in his career, he worked in senior financial lines underwriting roles at Allianz Australia Limited and ACE Group (now Chubb).
