The campus of South Carolina State University was under a lockdown Saturday night following a reported shooting at a residence hall, according to a notice on the university’s website. 

In the notice, the university said the campus was on lockdown following “shots fired at Hugine Suites.”

There is no word on any injuries.

The State Law Enforcement Division was being asked to investigate, the university said. 

The university said students in the Hugine Suites dorm should remain put, and others should stay away and return to their own residence halls. Others were asked to leave the campus. 

The university said a homecoming concert scheduled for Saturday night has been canceled.

South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott said in a statement on X, “My office is closely monitoring the situation at South Carolina State University. Praying for everyone’s safety on campus.”

The university, with a student population of about 2,900 students, is located in the city of Orangeburg, in central South Carolina.
